1 Chronicles 16
They brought in the ark of God and set it within the tent that David had pitched for it, and they presented burnt offerings and offerings of well-being before God. When David had finished presenting the burnt offering and the offerings of well-being, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD. He distributed to every Israelite, to each man and woman, a loaf of bread, a portion of meat, and a raisin cake.
He appointed some of the Levites to serve before the ark of the LORD, to call to remembrance, to give thanks, and to praise the LORD, the God of Israel: Asaph the leader; Zechariah second to him; Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel, with harps and lyres; and Asaph sounding the cymbals. Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests were continually with trumpets before the ark of the covenant of God.
On that day David first assigned Asaph and his kindred to give thanks to the LORD:
Give thanks to the LORD; call on his name;
make known his deeds among the peoples.
Sing to him; make music to him;
speak of all his wonderful works.
Glory in his holy name;
let the heart of those who seek the LORD rejoice.
Seek the LORD and his strength;
seek his face continually.
Remember his wonderful works that he has done,
his signs and the judgments of his mouth,
offspring of Israel, his servant,
children of Jacob, his chosen ones.
He is the LORD, our God;
his judgments are in all the earth.
Remember forever his covenant,
the word he commanded for a thousand generations,
the covenant he made with Abraham,
and his oath to Isaac.
He established it for Jacob as a statute,
for Israel as an everlasting covenant,
saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan,
the portion of your inheritance,”
when you were few in number,
very few, and sojourners in it.
They went from nation to nation,
from one kingdom to another people.
He allowed no one to oppress them;
for their sake he rebuked kings:
“Do not touch my anointed ones;
do my prophets no harm.”
Sing to the LORD, all the earth;
proclaim from day to day his salvation.
Tell among the nations his glory,
among all the peoples his wonderful works.
For great is the LORD and greatly to be praised;
he is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the peoples are idols,
but the LORD made the heavens.
Splendor and majesty are before him;
strength and joy are in his place.
Ascribe to the LORD, families of the peoples,
ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.
Ascribe to the LORD the glory of his name;
bring an offering and come before him.
Worship the LORD in holy splendor.
Tremble before him, all the earth.
Indeed, the world is established; it will not be shaken.
Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth exult;
let them say among the nations, “The LORD reigns!”
Let the sea roar, and all that fills it;
let the field exult, and everything in it.
Then the trees of the forest will sing for joy before the LORD,
for he comes to judge the earth.
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;
for his steadfast love is forever.
And say,
“Save us, God of our salvation;
gather us and deliver us from the nations,
that we may give thanks to your holy name
and glory in your praise.”
Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel,
from everlasting to everlasting.
And all the people said, “Amen!” and praised the LORD.
So he left there, before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, Asaph and his kindred, to serve continually before the ark, according to the matter required each day; and Obed-edom and their kindred, sixty-eight of them; also Obed-edom son of Jeduthun and Hosah were gatekeepers.
He left Zadok the priest and his fellow priests before the tabernacle of the LORD at the high place in Gibeon, to present burnt offerings to the LORD on the altar of burnt offering continually, morning and evening, according to all that is written in the instruction of the LORD, which he commanded Israel. With them were Heman and Jeduthun and the rest who had been chosen and designated by name to give thanks to the LORD, “for his steadfast love is forever.” With them, Heman and Jeduthun had trumpets and cymbals for sounding aloud, and instruments for the songs of God; and the sons of Jeduthun were at the gate.
Then all the people went, each to his home, and David turned to bless his household.
