The Shared Word Project

Using TSW & Fluent

Choose the reading posture you need, then switch whenever another way of hearing the passage would help.

Begin with Fluent to follow the passage

Fluent is designed for natural, sustained reading. Use it to read a whole chapter or book, pray with Scripture, hear a passage in worship, introduce an unfamiliar text, or develop biblical fluency.

Turn to TSW to examine the passage

TSW keeps literary shape, repetition, tension, and consequential ambiguity more visible. Use it for close study, preaching and teaching preparation, shared discussion, or staying with a difficult interpretive question.

Let the difference become a question

When TSW and Fluent differ, do not assume that one is right and the other is wrong. Ask what each rendering helps you notice and what feature of the source text may have prompted the difference.

In the Bible Reader

The translation selector changes the biblical text without changing your passage. Notes and Vocabulary belong to the selected translation. Companions are optional and may be chosen independently from the translation, allowing you to use TSW Study while reading Fluent or TSW.

A useful discipline

Use the translations as companions, not competitors.

These labels describe characteristic postures, not restrictions. Both translations may be read, proclaimed, prayed, studied, taught, and shared.
